Businesses wanting to tender for construction related procurement should be aware of the following:

Prequalification

Some construction related procurements require suppliers to be prequalified before submitting a quote or tender. Information on pre-qualification is available on the Prequalification page.

Pre-qualification is where you demonstrate technical, work health and safety management and business capabilities prior to supplying to the ACT Government. Pre-qualification is required to be eligible to tender for several categories of design and construction procurements.

Where a prequalification category is included in an approach to market as a prerequisite to participating in the procurement process, you must be prequalified before the closing date.

Prequalification is approved for a three-year term and subject to an annual satisfactory financial assessment. The Prequalification Team in Infrastructure Canberra assesses new applications, renewal applications, and consistently monitors the mandatory requirements for all prequalified entities.

Secure local jobs code

If you are a business tendering for construction, cleaning, security, or traffic management work, or certain services categories you will be subject to the requirements of the Secure Local Jobs Code. This includes the requirement to obtain a Secure Local Jobs Code Certificate before tendering for ACT Government work and for some procurements submitting a Labour Relations Training and Workplace Equity Plan.

The Projects Pipeline is limited to construction related procurement opportunities.

Tenders ACT contains a list of non-construction related forecast procurements, primarily for goods and services.

Engaging with social enterprises is one way Government Buyers may choose to achieve the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion procurement value.

The ACT Government has a Canberra Region Local Industry Participation Policy (LIPP) in place, which covers the Canberra region to ensure that competitive local businesses, including SMEs, are given every opportunity to respond to procurement opportunities with the ACT Government.
